Welcome to Plathville: Kim & Barry Plath’s Relationship In Trouble

One major storyline in Season 4 has been Kim and Barry’s relationship issues. Throughout the season, Kim has been finding herself and pursuing her own interests. While focusing on herself, she has discovered that she doesn’t truly want to be married to Barry.

So, she has been sleeping on the couch or staying at her family’s rental properties. She’s also mentioned divorce to her husband and kids, which has been documented on Welcome to Plathville.

Now, the couple has officially split, according to a statement they shared with People Magazine. 

Barry Plath Married & Divorced Once Before?

Katie Joy of Without a Crystal Ball did some digging and discovered that Barry was married to another woman before meeting Kim. Katie shared her findings in a new Instagram post.

She revealed that Barry was previously married to a woman named Laurie Mack.

Katie writes, “After High School he attended college. He married Laurie Mack in Blue Earth county in 1990. By 1991, the couple moved to Tallahassee, Florida. In 1994, Laurie Mack filed for divorce from Barry in Leon County citing irreconcilable differences as the reason.”

Laurie and Barry didn’t have any kids.

WOACB reports, “After the divorce, Barry married Kim Andersson (Plath) in 1997. The marriage was Kim’s first and Barry’s second. Barry’s ex-wife moved back to Minnesota and works as an attorney.”

Katie also notes that the Welcome to Plathville patriarch wasn’t raised a fundamentalist. He was raised in the midwest and later became friends with people who were a part of fundamentalism. She points out that he hasn’t mentioned his first marriage on the show, either.
