We can only imagine how surreal it was for Laura Wright and her General Hospital castmates. Following the May 9, 2023, passing of iconic vet Jacklyn Zeman, they shot episodes in which their characters said goodbye to Bobbie Spencer — and, in a way, they also made peace with the loss of their friend and co-star. So the tears that were shed on screen at the memorial service… well, they weren’t acting.
The Daytime Emmy winner calls the experience “intense and difficult” in an interview with Soap Opera Digest, adding, “I think everyone felt it, took it home the whole week.” Zeman may even have sent them a message when they were done: Outside the studio awaited a rainbow that was as bright as the actress’ smile. Clearly, she was as moved as viewers were by the scenes.
To reset, emotionally speaking, “I just think we all went home and took some hot baths and had a glass of wine and went to bed,” says Carly’s portrayer. “Depending on [whether you were] coming back the next day, the decompressing or really letting it go, it is not so easy… ”
In fact, if an actor’s character will be picking up right where they left off, Wright says that “you almost don’t want [the feeling] to be completely gone because then you’d have to start from scratch… the next morning. So you kind of just live in that space halfway a little bit until it’s over.”
