What’s Next for Young & Restless’ Claire and Summer May Surprise You — and Them

Summer and Claire were set up to be Young & Restless rivals from the get-go, with Summer’s distrust of her new cousin exploding into venemous accusations when Harrison was kidnapped. But a surprising twist or two may be in store for the pair.

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen the kind of malevolence Summer was sporting toward Claire after Harrison was abducted from the upstairs of the Abbott manse! The panicked mother let loose on Kyle, whom she blamed for putting the boy in harm’s way by leaving him alone with someone they didn’t know — and who Summer didn’t trust — but the lion’s share of her anger was directed at Claire.

No one could blame Summer for her feelings. Claire spent weeks setting up Summer’s grandmother, Nikki, for an elaborate and diabolical trap that lured her to a lake house in Oregon, forced her off the wagon via a vodka, and eventually saw half the family poisoned and on the threshold of death. Adding insult to injury, Summer’s own father, Nick, was stabbed during the chaotic scene!

Summer was reluctant to buy into Claire’s assertion that she was a victim of her Great Aunt Jordan’s along with the rest of the fam, and was skeptical to say the least that her newfound cousin was reformed after a brief stay in Memorial Hospital’s mental health wing.

When Harrison went missing while alone with Claire, it wasn’t exactly a stretch to point the finger in her direction. Kyle even jumped to the same conclusion. Of course, as time went on, the theory that Claire was working with her aunt seemed less and less likely, but Summer wouldn’t budge from her suspicions.

Once Harrison was found, he stopped his mom in her tracks by telling her that not only had Claire not hurt him, Jordan had hurt her. The look on Summer’s face when the boy pleaded, “We need to help her, mommy!”

Claire, of course, was found trapped under a dead body in a storage unit, and so it looks as though Summer’s going to be served up a big ol’ dish of crow to eat. But will she apologize? It’s kinda hard to picture, we have to admit.

That said, we think that’s exactly what the first twist will be. Summer will make her amends and she and Claire will become fast friends. At least until the next twist… which could make them rivals again down the line.

Yep, if our hunch is correct, Kyle and Claire will start playing happy families with Harrison and that might be just the ticket to bring out Summer’s mean streak again. She’s bound to be jealous if the new apple of her grandfather’s eye also wins the affections of her ex-hubby and her son.
