Ethan Plath is expressing his concerns about his sister Lydia’s relationship.

In PEOPLE’s exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming episode of Welcome to Plathville, airing on Aug. 5, Ethan, 27, and Lydia, 21, have a heart-to-heart after she revealed she and her then-boyfriend Zac Wyse were getting married. Lydia explains that their timeline accelerated when she decided she wanted to sit under a ministry in Germany and bring Zac along.

“I was talking to my pastor about it and he was just like, ‘I would totally recommend you guys going together, married,’” she says. “And the first month of our marriage is just being poured into and really just receiving from the Lord.”

Ethan, pointing out that Lydia and Zac had only been dating for a few months, admits he is struggling to understand her perspective.

“Me and Lydia are very different in our reasoning and our thoughts and where we place value,” he notes. “I believe in God. God has given all of us free will and so with that free will comes the ability to make your own decisions and to take the consequences of those decisions.”

“So it’s like, if you are saying it’s all divine and God is making these decisions for you, it’s taking away from your responsibility in making a good decision or a bad decision,” Ethan adds.

While Lydia insists that “it just made sense” to get married, Ethan worries that the choice wasn’t entirely her own.

“I think leaving such big parts of your life open to the decision of someone else, whether that’s God or other men or people, leaves you open to being manipulated,” he tells cameras. “She’s a blank slate ready to be written on, and I just worry about who’s going to do the writing.”

He then asks Lydia if Zac “is sure you’re good with” tying the knot after three months of knowing each other.

Instead of answering, Lydia quips that they had actually been together for “four months, if that matters.”

“If I was watching someone else go through this and I wasn’t experiencing it, I don’t think I’d be able to fully understand,” she adds.

“I don’t understand — it’s too fast, it’s too much,” Ethan reiterates.

“Like I said, I don’t really know him, I don’t really like him,” he continues, causing Lydia to grow teary-eyed and question, “Why is that?”

“I’m just being honest with you,” Ethan replies. “I just don’t like him, but I don’t know if that’s because I don’t know him yet or if it’s just because I’m being protective of you and it’s all really fast.”

The scene comes to an end as Lydia begins to sob in Ethan’s arms, unsure how to respond.

Lydia and Zac ultimately went through with their marriage in February, six months after meeting at church.

At the time, they told PEOPLE that they wanted their wedding to be “an example of the love Jesus has for the church,” and cited the Bible verse Ephesians 5:25 as a passage they plan to live by.

“We envisioned a time to celebrate our union with our close communities coming together,” Zac said. “Neither of us wanted to get caught up in the details we won’t remember for the years to come. So we’ve tried to keep our focus on what our purpose for this day is, our union before God, our friends, and family.”
