Heartbreak in L.A.! Eric Forrester’s Final Curtain – John McCook Confirms Emotional Exit from Bold & Beautiful

John McCook has been part of The Bold and the Beautiful from the very start. Since then, however, the actor has shared the end of an era with fans. The moment was shared in a tribute video released on social media.

John McCook Was Part Of The Bold And The Beautiful During The Very First Episode

McCook has had a prominent career in soaps. He first came to fame playing Lance Prentiss on The Young and the Restless.

In 1987, McCook would take on the role of Eric Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful. Appearing in the debut episode, he would serve as one of the soap’s longest-running actors, alongside Katherine Kelly Lang.

Recently, the actor’s daughter, Molly McCook, shared a video of her father on TikTok and Instagram. Molly herself is also an actress, known for appearing on Last Man Standing. In 2010, she also appeared in a five-episode arc alongside her father on The Bold and the Beautiful.

In the video, Molly narrated, “This is my dad, John McCook. He has played Eric Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful for the past 38 years. Come with us today to say goodbye to CBS’ Television City.”

Molly assured, “The show, and Eric Forrester, goes on, but just in a new home. So Mom and Dad and I ventured over to CBS for one last goodbye.” Noting that the show was older than she was, she shared, “For me, these hallways have a magic and nostalgia that are very powerful. And I know that fellow employees of this studio and family members feel the same.

“But also just the history of this studio and these hallways is so palpable. Carol Burnett, Judy Garland, I mean the stories go on and on and let me tell you my dad knows how to tell those stories.”

Molly admitted she didn’t watch the show herself. As she mused, by the time she was old enough to understand the show, there was already too much to keep up with.

The video continued to showcase the final action and final cut at the studio. Molly noted, “It was a pretty emotional day. She compared the moment to leaving a childhood home, “where the memories will live on, but the walls you leave behind.”

As previously reported, the soap was switching production from Television City, which had been its home since its 1987 launch, to Sunset Las Palmas Studios. This was keeping the production in Los Angeles.

At the time, according to Deadline, Sean Griffin, SVP of Sales for Sunset Studios and Quixote shared, “We are honored to welcome The Bold and the Beautiful to Sunset Las Palmas, where we will deliver world-class service to ensure the entire cast and crew have an exceptional experience. Their long-term recommitment to Hollywood at this pivotal moment is an important symbol for the industry, and we hope others will follow their lead.”

Taking to social media, many fans shared their reactions to seeing Molly’s video. Many fans also shared similar stories of seeing the set in person. Of course, some fans also had a few kind words for her father, John. Some comments included:

  • “This was a really nice tribute to her dad, who is still going strong; but also to B&B, which has created so many vivid memories for us. Hopefully, the move to a new setting will reinvigorate the show and keep giving us memorable drama for years to come.”
  • “I temped at CBS Television City many years ago. The indoor air at the soundstages has a permanent dusty antique smell, in a good way. They would preserve things very well.”
  • “Great John !!!!!!! Eric Forrester is the best !!!! true patriarch.”
  • “Watching already 38 years plus since 8 years they air the bold & beautiful the beginning on dutch tv.”
  • “What a heartfelt, beautiful tribute. To CBS but more to your dad.”
