Young and the Restless star Eric Braeden revealed his cancer diagnosis in April 2023. The long-time soap star shared that after experiencing issues with his prostate, doctors discovered high-grade cancer cells near his bladder. He immediately began immunotherapy to fight off the disease. He vowed not to let cancer win. So far he’s done just that. He continues to take cancer head-on. What did he share with fans? Young And Restless Star Eric Braeden Fights Cancer
Just like anyone else, Young and the Restless star Eric Braeden. who portrays the powerful Victor Newman on the soap, was devastated when he found he had bladder cancer. However, his determination and strength have seen him through. After first being diagnosed and going public with the information, Eric said, “This bastard ain’t going to get me, I’m going to get it. I’ll be in top form again soon.”
He wasn’t lying. Four months later, Braeden announced that after his latest exam, he was cancer-free. Eric shared that the reason for him going public with his diagnosis was to help others be proactive and get their routine scans and tests done.
Now, in April 2025, Eric is still fighting cancer head-on and will not let it be his downfall. At 84 years old, Braeden is in top form and works out regularly. He shared a video on Instagram showing himself suited up with boxing gloves and taking on the punching bag with full force. His caption read, “Eff cancer! 84 and going!!”
Through it all, Eric has continued to play Victor Newman on Young and the Restless. Some thought this might be what would cause his retirement. However, he has no plans to retire anytime soon. After portraying the character for over 45 years, he will ride the wave as long as he can.
Much like Victor, Eric is a fighter and has a fierce determination in him. Cancer picked the wrong actor to mess with.
