Gregory, Finn, and Violet return home. Violet can’t wait for Chase and Brook Lynn to have a baby so she can be the older cousin and babysit. They talk about the wedding, and Violet loved catching the bouquet, the dancing, and the kissing. Finn says it’s time for her bedtime, so she gives Gregory her bouquet to protect it.
Gregory says today was magical, but he couldn’t have gotten through it or these past months without Finn. He says he appreciates him. Gregory decides to turn in, but Finn stops him. He appreciates what his dad said and for being here for him after all the time they missed. Gregory says that is ancient history, and he’s been a rock for him these past few months. Finn says he’s in awe of his strength and that he is still embracing life. Gregory doesn’t have a choice, the present is all he has.
Violet returns in her pajamas and thanks her grandpa for watching over her bouquet. She wants to put it in water, but Gregory tells her she should preserve the bouquet by hanging it upside down for a few weeks to dry them out. She tells her grandpa she loves him and heads to bed. Finn gets emotional and thinks Violet is growing up so fast, and he just thought about giving her away on her wedding day. Gregory says Violet will always need her dad.
Before he heads to bed, Gregory apologizes for what he said to Finn the other day. He was angry at his disease and feeling helpless, and he lashed out in a petty and vicious way. He says it was a cheap shot, and he regrets it, and he loves both his sons and is proud of who they’ve become. He also praises him as a wonderful dad and says he is doing a great job with Violet. Finn says that’s because he always thinks what his dad would do all the time, as he’s the best father he knows. Finn is moved to tears as Gregory kisses him on the forehead before turning in. Finn tells his dad that he loves him too.
Finn helps his dad into his bedroom and out of his clothes when he struggles with them. Gregory jokes with him not to think about tucking him in. Finn says even he has his limits. He tells his dad to have good dreams, which is what he used to say to him as a kid.
Finn heads to the living room and calls Alexis, who is working on her appeal. She asks about the wedding, and he tells her that he drank. He explains what happened, and Alexis says it sounds like he got caught up in the moment. He confirms he was, so is he just overreacting? She isn’t saying that, they know staying sober is important, and a slip is a slip. However, he didn’t fail, and he has to forgive himself. Finn says he was seven years sober, and it was gone in twenty seconds. She says he didn’t mean to drink, so he didn’t mess up his sobriety date. She asks him to tell her that he knows this is not the end of his sobriety. He thanks her for talking him down and wishes her luck tomorrow.
In their suite, Brook, Lynn and Chase have changed into night attire. They look through the gift basket Olivia sent up. She realizes she hasn’t eaten much today and looks for something tasty.
Brook Lynn asks how he feels about his mom not being here for the wedding and away on assignment. He says he’s used to his mom’s job, and he thinks she bowed out because of what happened between her, his dad and Finn as to not make it an uncomfortable day. Brook Lynn says they’ ’ll send her lots of photos, and she was so glad his dad officiated.
They drink champagne in bed, and Brook Lynn talks about the wedding and they kiss. Later she tells Chase she can’t wait to sleep, turns off the light, and sees he’s already asleep. She snuggles up next to him, looks at her rings, and says she looks forward to the rest of their lives together.
Pan to Gregory trying to sleep. As he drifts off, a flashback of photos of his entire life, mixed with memories of him and his sons as adults, as well as Violet, plays out on screen. He recalls telling Brook Lynn that his Christmas wish was to live long enough to see his son marry her, he recalls the wedding, and then telling Chase his bucket list was complete. Gregory’s arm, which was above his head, drops to the bed, he twitches a few times, and then is still… Violet’s voice says, “Goodnight Grandpa.”
